Nordan Young Artist Award
The Nordan Young Artist Award is open to entering freshman of superior talent in Art and/or Design with 12 or fewer semester hours of college level credit upon entry to the University. Selection is made by submission of an online Application and Portfolio. In order to be eligible for the scholarship, students must major in Art Education, Graphic Design or Studio Art (Ceramics, Painting, Photography, Printmaking or Sculpture). The submitted portfolio should exhibit technical competence, formal understanding and personal creative expression. Graphic Design work should show insight into the use of design to solve a specific communication problem. Applying students must submit 15 to 20 images of original works. At least 5 of these must be drawings exploring a single subject in real space (not from a photograph, reproduction or invention)
The scholarships are renewable for up to three academic years (a total of four years-worth of awards) of the student's undergraduate program. Please read the guidelines carefully. Late or incomplete portfolios will not be processed.

Merit Scholarship Awards
Merit scholarships are for students who are currently enrolled at TCU or students who have transferred to TCU and are majoring in the Art Education, Graphic Design or Studio Art (Ceramics, Painting, Photography, Printmaking or Sculpture) BFA programs. Available scholarships include the Nordan Fine Arts, Emily Guthrie Smith, Fine Arts Guild, Carol Thornton and Samuel P. Ziegler. Scholarships will be awarded to the top BFA candidates presenting portfolio/works in the annual open competition. Selection is made by submission and presentation of a portfolio and a prepared artist statement (Studio Art) or statement of professional goals (Graphic Design). Late or incomplete portfolios will not be accepted.

Renewal of Merit Scholarships
For current scholarship holders of the Young Nordan, Nordan Scholar, Emily Guthrie Smith, Fine Arts Guild, Carol Thornton and Samuel P. Ziegler awards. Renewal is based on maintaining a 3.0 GPA in the area of the award and successfully meeting the University grade standards for non-probationary students and portfolio examination in subsequent years until the scholarship runs out. Late or incomplete portfolios will not be accepted.
