26th Annual Art in the Metroplex Exhibition - A Competition Held at Texas Christian University

The show will run Saturday, September 6 through Thursday, October 2 in the J.M. Moudy Art Gallery. Art in the Metroplex is sponsored by TCU and the Templeton Art Center [501 (c) 3].

JUROR

Eleanor Heartney is an independent cultural critic and author residing in New York City. She is contributing editor for Art in America and Artpress and co-president of AICAUSA: the American Section of the International Art Critics Association. She has written for most cultural publications including Art News, New Art Examiner, the Washington Post, Sculpture, and the New York Times. She was the 1992 recipient of the College Art Association’s Frank Jewett Mather Award for distinction in art criticism and has also received grants from the New York Foundation for the Arts (1993) and the Asian Cultural Council (1995). Heartney’s books include a collection of her essays published in 1997 by Cambridge University Press under the title Critical Condition: American Culture at the Crossroads; Postmodernism published in 2001 by the Tate Gallery Publishers; Postmodern Heretics: The Catholic Imagination in Contemporary Art published in 2004 by Midmarch Arts Press and Defending Complexity: Art Politics and the New World Order, published in 2005 by Hard Press Editions.

ARTIST'S RECEPTION & JUROR LECTURE

The reception and awards presentation will be held Friday, September 19 in the J.M. Moudy Building, room 132N, adjacent to the exhibition hall. The juror will be present.

GALLERY NIGHT RECEPTION

A reception will be held Saturday, September 6 from 2 – 8 p.m. in conjunction with Fall Gallery Night. The Fort Worth Art Dealers Association, Beth Lea Clardy Estate, Nancy Vance, Karen Weinman, and the Raucus Science Club make this show possible. TCU faculty and staff and volunteers from Templeton Art Center are responsible for producing this competition.

There will be $2,000 in total awards, including:

The Beth Lea and John L. Clardy Memorial Award

The Fort Worth Art Dealers Association Award

The Claud Vance Memorial Award

The Raucus Science Club Award

RULES FOR ENTRY

All entries will be judged from digital images. Each artist may submit three entries: one image for each two-dimensional work and three images for each three-dimensional work.

The juror may decline work that does not meet the above criteria for entry.

MEDIA

Painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, photography, and mixed media qualify for entry

ELIGIBILITY

Any artist living in Tarrant, Dallas, Denton, Collin, Hunt, Rockwall, Kaufman, Stephens, Palo Pinto, Erath, Shackelford, Ellis, Johnson, Hood, Parker, or Wise County may enter. Works must be original, and have been completed in the last two years.

Students 18 and older are welcome to submit work, but it must have been created without supervision. No work previously exhibited in Art in the Metroplex competitions may be entered.

NOTIFICATION

Notification of acceptance or rejection will be e-mailed by August 4.

PRESENTATION

All two-dimensional work must be delivered ready to install (suitably framed, if appropriate) and wired to hang. Any electrical features used in artworks must meet electrical safety codes.

RETURN ART WORK

Bring a print out of your notification as identification when claiming your works at the close of the exhibition. All artworks must be picked up on Saturday, October 4, 1 – 5 p.m. at the Moudy Art Gallery.

ENTRY FEE

There is a non-refundable fee of $30.00 per artist. Artists must use a credit or debit card when uploading images through slideroom.com. Up to three works will be permitted.

LIABILITY

All reasonable care will be given to the works submitted. However, all works are handled and displayed at the individual artist’s risk. Neither the Templeton Art Center, TCU, nor any sponsor will be responsible for loss or damage to any work while in custody or transit. Submission of an entry to this exhibition constitutes agreement on the part of the entrant to all of the above conditions.

DELIVERY

All accepted works must be hand delivered to the J.M. Moudy Building on the corner of S. University Drive and Cantey Street, Fort Worth, between 1 and 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 23. A load ing dock is available at the rear of the building off Princeton Street.

EXHIBITION HOURS

The Moudy Art Gallery will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. on weekends, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday. For further information call (817) 257-7643.
